Master Piece in the Hills of Oxford, Mississippi

Nestled in the outskirts of Oxford city limits, exists a modern mountain dream home.  An unassuming entrance leads you to a modern house that overlooks a beautiful bluff that is as stunning as the structure itself.  Having Mississippi ties, the homeowners moved back to the Magnolia State from Colorado but brought a mountain retreat house plan with them.  The house plan was something they had loved and teamed up with Oxford’s own, Josh Samuels of Samuels Construction, to construct this Mountain home in the hills of Oxford, MS.

While meeting with Josh,  they procured the Oxford, MS design firm Hazel Bleu Designs.  Sunny Baddour, owner and designer, worked her magic and redesigned the plans to fit this family of four’s needs.  She married modern design with the families love of unique art and furniture.  The open floor plan showcases the magnificent view.  The structure sits atop a hill that has the most intoxicating, serene, relaxing view of a bluff of trees.  A perfect location to view the changing of the seasons. Every space in in the floorpan is inclined to this miraculous view.

Living Room

As you enter the home you feel as though you are still outside.  The showcase is the view.  The talent of Sunny was including patterns, colors, and unusual elements that marry with the modern esthetic.  The clean lines of the design are accentuated with pops of surprise color, unique stone and tile selections and bold selections of wallpaper.

The office color selection, as a designer, is one of my favorite colors of the house.  Sunny chose Narragansett Green by Benjamin Moore.  She wanted this space, in her words, to feel masculine but have an unexpected “WOW” factor.  Sunny did this by using the dreamy color on walls trim and ceiling, and door creating the monochromatic scheme.  In doing so it showcases the mid-century modern chandelier.  A stunning custom desk created by JJ’s Wood Shed of Oxford stands out in the beautiful monochromatic space.  It adds to the wow factor and masculinity.  I love when designers mix natural athletics with modern pieces.  It creates a space that is cozy and interesting.  Laying these design elements is what makes this room a showstopper.

Office

The powder room is always a place to have fun.  Its where anyone can be daring in their design, and that is what Sunny did.  She wanted this space to be the star and did so by applying a bold wallpaper with gold starburst.  Making the space even bolder she added a custom vanity with acrylic legs with brass accents.  It has the feel of the mid century piece of furniture with a raised backsplash and a pop of fun in the mirror selection.  As I like to say the earrings to finish an outfit, Sunny chose brass fixtures and hardware from Modern Matters to finish off the custom vanity in this showstopper of a powder room.

Powder Room

In the open floor plan the kitchen marries with the common space.  The counter top stone selection is  what is most unique to the space.  Sunny said the homeowner saw the stone in the stoneyard and said this is it!  It is bold and unusual, and in this selection Sunny had to rework the design of the kitchen, dining and living areas to showcase the stone.  The hood to the stove is plaster and in making the bold selection they had to repaint the hood several times to get the color just right to match the bold selection.  Selecting clean flat panels and low key color cabinets to be a side show to the bold countertops works perfectly in this modern sleek kitchen space.  Sunny chose a pearlescent tile as the backsplash, a perfect subtle color, and a touch of brass in the hardware to allow the homeowner stone selection to be the star of the space.  The Miele coffee machine was an added touch to complete this chef’s kitchen.  In the same living area sits a custom drawn cast stone fireplace which was fabricated by Christie Cut Stone in Gallaway, TN.  So as a meal is being cooked you can nestle next to the fireplace, the great thing about this open concept plan.

Kitchen

Another space where Sunny added an element of bold fun is in the Master bath.  This wallpaper selection was Sunny’s favorite.  She said she went through hundreds of samples before landing on this one.  The bright bold colors against the black background is definite statement.  I always say the powder rooms and bathrooms are small spaces to take a chance if  a client is intimidated by color or wallpaper.  Her selection elevated the master bath from everyday boring toilet room to a space of pleasure.  I love Sunny’s selection for this space.  I have to say it is my favorite of the wallpaper selection of this home.

This home is so unique to Oxford.  A perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of the Square, but also close enough to dip in the fun all Oxford has to offer.  The back of the house window showcases, was the design element that takes the win.  Entirely covered in windows to showcase the scenery of the lake and natural woods area surrounding the lot.  Not only to you get this amazing view and house but there is also a guest suite and spa with a gym.  The floorpan also houses a future sauna and spa.

A beautifully designed home by Sunny Baddour of Hazel Bleu Designs.  Kudos to a job well done.  I so enjoy seeing other designers work.  What a beautiful pallet of texture, color, modern design married with the natural beauty of the outdoors.  Job well done!
